Welcome 2018...

I am not a natural "workout lover". I would say I am more of a food lover. There are many things that I love that are not healthy: cheese, pizza, chocolate, soda, wine... basically anything salty. There are so many foods I enjoy that do not cooperate with my slowing metabolism that I decided that I really DO need to get back in shape for the new year to help myself feel better and to have more energy.

It's very obvious to me that my mood is a lot better after a hard workout, in fact, I even used to enjoy it once upon a time. I used to love running; (strange, I know). On a personal note, the past few years of my personal life were somewhat challenging. Finding a permanent job among many other stressors interfered with working out. Truth be told, I put my physical well-being on the back burner to other things and it really took a toll on me. I was tired all the time. I had a hard time sleeping but needed a nap everyday after work and it was exhausting. I gained a lot of weight.

Last year for my birthday I bought myself a membership to a yoga studio to "ease" my way back into working out and it's been nothing but a positive experience. Not only did I tone up physically, but it wasn't as "easy" as I thought it would be ... but in a good way! I now regularly attend hot yoga classes that help me control my breathing, meditate and relieve stress. I even signed up to go through a yoga-teacher certification program, unfortunately the class was cancelled. (There's always next year!)

With the start of the new year, I am hoping to begin running again more consistently. I am wondering if I blog about it each day to "keep track" of it working out, it will inspire me to stay motivated and "stay the path." Mostly, I hope that in sharing my experiences each day I can document my physical and mental transformation to a healthier me because I know that when I am trying to be the best version of myself, the world will get the best version of myself.

3 mile run today ... Not too bad for Day 1.

Here's to starting a new! Cheers!
